Real Estate Website Zoocasa to Shut Down June 22

Blog by Mary Roy | June 10th, 2015

Zoocasa, an online real estate brokerage and wholly owned subsidiary of Rogers Communications will cease to be registered as of June 22.

What had started as a listing website, expanded in 2013 to connect buyers and sellers with realtors in their area. Marketing the concept of making real estate data more accessible to the public, Zoocasa mailed clients a list of sale prices for nearby homes every day.

The Toronto Real Estate Board took issue to this practice, citing concerns with customer privacy, and sent warning letters to the online service regarding sending out confidential data. Zoocasa complied with TREB’s request, and as of February 2015, Zoocasa has stopped publishing home sale data to its website.

A representative of Rogers stated, “Rogers has made the decision to no longer continue our investment in Zoocasa as the business is no longer a fit with our overall company plan, and core areas of focus. We will close down our website and mobile app effective June 22, 2015.”
